Colossus of Constantine Statue – an exhibition

The Colossus of Constantine is a big statue that was built around 312 AD to honor Emperor Constantine I, the powerful ruler of the Roman Empire. It was about 13 meters tall, and it was built of marble. Originally, the statue stood in the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine, a grand building where people gathered for important events. Over time, the statue was moved to different locations in Rome, and parts of it were lost. Today, only fragments of the Colossus remain, but they still give us a glimpse into the power and majesty of the Roman Empire during Constantine’s reign.

Now you can see a 13-meter-high reconstruction of the statue in Giardino di Villa Caffarell, a part of the Capitolini Museum in Rome. The statue was first shown in Milano in 2022, and now it is time for it to be shown to the people of Rome. The exhibition opened on February 6 (2024), and it will be in the current location until December 31 (2025).
