Tiber Island

The Tiber Island is the only island in the Tiber river, and the island is about 270 meter long and around 100 meter wide. The Tiber island has always been known for medicine, and earlier a temple dedicated to Aesculapius was found here. Today a hospital is located on the island, but the average tourist will probably find the cafes, ice bars and restaurants more attractive.

The bridge Ponte Frabicio is the bridge leading to the island, and it is the oldest in Rome, built in year 62 BC. The other bridge leading to the island is Ponte Cestio and it takes you from Trastavere to the island.
